2010 Special Issue of International Journal of Transitional Justice
The International Journal for Transitional Justice (IJTJ) invites submissions for its 2010 special issue entitled "Transitional Justice on Trial: Evaluating its Impact" to be guest edited by Colleen Duggan, from the Evaluation Unit of the International Development Research Centre.
Transitional justice is the study of strategies employed by states and international institutions to deal with human rights abuses and to effect social reconstruction in the wake of widespread violence.
In this special issue, the IJTJ would like to delve more deeply into the impact dilemma currently being faced by those with a stake in the outcomes of transitional justice policies and practices. Just as evidence can be found in multiple and often unexpected places, the IJTJ encourages the submission of theoretical, practical and policy-oriented papers from a broad spectrum of disciplines: evaluation research, sociology, anthropology, psychology, criminology, law, international relations and economics, among others. Submissions from north and south-based authors are encouraged; inputs from academics, from practitioners who have engaged in assessing the impact of their interventions, or other stakeholders who have reflected systematically on these issues are welcome.
Possible topics may include (but are not limited to):
• Methodologies for evaluating the impact of transitional justice mechanisms and projects
• Challenges of conducting evaluation
• The politics of evaluation
• Lessons learned from monitoring and evaluation in other fields
The deadline for submissions is April 1, 2010. Papers should be submitted on-line from the IJTJ website at www.ijtj.oxfordjournals.org
