A Year Of Reckoning

A Year Of Reckoning

Israeli-Palestinian relations have reached a new nadir in the year since Hamas’ attack on October 7, 2023, and Israel’s retaliation. Never since Israel’s establishment in 1948 has their relationship reached this level of bloodthirstiness in the quest to completely destroy the other. Both Israel and Hamas have miscalculated the other’s intentions and resolved over the years to rid themselves of each other.

Protect the medicines that protect us and ensure that all those who need them can access them, so said Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the Director General of The World Health Organization (WHO), at the Strategic Roundtable on "Charting a new path forward for global action against antimicrobial resistance (AMR)" held recently during the 77th World Health Assembly (decision-making body of the WHO which is attended by all countries part of the UN health agency WHO).

Gantz's Resignation Will Have Serious Implications On The War

The resignation of the National Unity party leader, Gantz, who joined the war cabinet, should not come as a surprise. He warned Prime Minister Netanyahu nearly a month ago that he must decide on an endgame to the war. He could not have put it more succinctly, stating, “Personal and political considerations have begun to invade the holy of holies of Israel’s security. Prime Minister Netanyahu, the choice is in your hands.

Netanyahu Must Abandon Blind Ideology And Face Reality

Hamas’ October 2023 attack and Israel's massive retaliation have shredded every script that Prime Minister Netanyahu and his followers wrote in their fictitious play that portrays the Palestinians as an irredeemable foe, citing Hamas’ attack as proof to support their contentious claim.

The deadly intersection: TB and tobacco smoking co-epidemics in Indonesia

Dr TARA SINGH BAM – CNS

A tiger with its mouth open Description automatically generated In the lead up to World No Tobacco Day later this month, it is high time we recognise and effectively address the deadly synergy between the two epidemics that fuel each other: tobacco use and tuberculosis (TB). Tobacco is the single-largest preventable cause of death worldwide and TB continues to be the deadliest of infectious diseases in high burden countries (even despite the COVID-19 pandemic).

Can Erdogan Shed His Duplicity And Do Something Right?

Author
Dr. Alon Ben-Meir
Whenever I write about Turkey’s President Erdogan, I find it hard to articulate what kind of legacy this man wants to leave behind. He had every opportunity to become a great leader of a great nation but miserably failed. His self-aggrandizement, fake religious zeal, and ever-growing lust for power prevented him from discerning what was best for his country and how to become a constructive and truthful leader, admired and respected at home and abroad, which he so desperately desired.

Empowering Democracy: A Blueprint for Economic Development and Well-being in America

The core of economic development is promoting democracy and guaranteeing the welfare of Americans and workers. Problems like unemployment and poverty are unacceptable in a democratic society. Access to affordable healthcare, housing, and education, as well as support for small enterprises, are critical components of a nation's democratic process. Decisions that put economics ahead of democracy should be based on the truth and individual principles.
